FLORIAN CLEMENS MEIER

Florian Clemens Meier was trained as a traditional wooden boatbuilder at the International Yacht Restoration School in Newport, Rhode Island, USA. And later worked as a boatbuilder in Tasmania, Australia. He studied Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich in the class for jewlery and hollowware and graduated as a Meisterschüler under Karen Pontoppidan in 2026.

A large part of his artistic work is the collection of various materials and things. On the one hand, this process serves him as inspiration, on the other hand, the collection of raw materials also results in an examination of material cultures and consumer societies. Which are reflected in the content of the works. The collected things are mostly misappropriated and sometimes become semi-functional objects. They often have a reference to everyday objects and move between realms of wearables, sculptures, and useable objects. His works span an arc between the Palaeolithic and the present day and open up new contexts through the range of references.
